As the Green Bay Packers reach the quarter point of the 2023 season with a 2-2 record, there is room for improvement if they aim to progress further in their campaign.
Several issues need addressing, including their slow starts, the need for ground game improvement, and concerns in the secondary.
One significant concern is the performance of Keisean Nixon, who has primarily played in the slot cornerback position.
While he excels as a return specialist on special teams, his performance as a defensive back has been less convincing. Nixon has struggled, particularly in the slot, where he has been vulnerable to opponents.
To bolster their secondary, Matt Holden of Bleacher Report suggests that the Packers explore free agency and consider veteran cornerback Bryce Callahan.
Callahan has a proven track record and could significantly improve the Packers’ slot cornerback position.

Nixon’s performance in the slot has been subpar, with Pro Football Reference revealing that he was targeted nine times in the team’s first two games, allowing eight completions for 62 yards and a touchdown.
A move for Callahan would bring stability and an upgrade to the position. In his recent campaign, Callahan demonstrated his ability with nine combined interceptions and passes defended while holding opposing quarterbacks to a 64.8 completion percentage.
While Callahan alone may not address all the Packers’ defensive needs, he could make a substantial difference in the slot cornerback position.
The return of Eric Stokes from the PUP List would also provide a boost to the secondary, which could influence the Packers’ decision on whether to pursue Callahan or not.
In light of the Packers’ challenges in the early part of the season, acquiring a player like Callahan to strengthen their secondary could be a strategic move to bolster their defensive capabilities.
