Mike McCarthy Returns to Work Following Appendicitis Surgery

Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy has resumed his coaching duties after undergoing surgery for acute appendicitis on Wednesday. Defensive coordinator Dan Quinn temporarily took charge of team activities during McCarthy’s absence.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones provided an update on McCarthy’s status, stating that the head coach returned to the facility on Friday morning and is expected to lead the team in their upcoming game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night. Jones emphasized that there are no anticipated limitations for McCarthy, and everything will proceed “business as usual.”

McCarthy, 60, experienced abdominal pain on Wednesday morning, leading to a prompt medical evaluation by the team’s medical staff. Despite the surgical procedure, McCarthy is determined to guide the Cowboys, who currently hold a 9-3 record, in a crucial matchup against the NFC East-leading Philadelphia Eagles, who boast a 10-2 record.

This isn’t the first time Quinn has stepped in for McCarthy, having previously served as head coach during McCarthy’s quarantine due to COVID-19. McCarthy, with a coaching record of 164-100-2 with the Green Bay Packers (2006-2018) and the Cowboys (2020-present), is a pivotal figure for the team’s success. The Cowboys and their fans anticipate his return to the sidelines for the upcoming game.
