Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst has emphasized the significance of the next 10 games for Jordan Love, as the organization seeks to determine if Love is the long-term answer at the quarterback position.
With 10 games remaining in the 2023 season, Gutekunst and the Packers aim to make a definitive assessment regarding Love’s future as the team’s quarterback.
Gutekunst stated, “I think we’ve got 10 games left. These are going to be very important 10 games.”
Jordan Love, who was Green Bay’s first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Utah State, is under contract with the Packers for one more season after signing a $22.5 million extension during the past offseason. Love started the season with a 2-1 record, but the Packers have since experienced a four-game losing streak, leaving them at 2-5 and in the NFC North’s last place.
Love has passed for 1,492 yards, 11 touchdowns, and eight interceptions with a completion rate of 57.7%. During the four-game losing streak, he threw seven interceptions compared to just four touchdowns.
Gutekunst stated, “I think he’s done a lot of really good things. Really like the way he’s responded to the adversity, how he’s led the team. Again, we’ve got to be better as a unit, and I expect that to happen over the next 10 games. And I think that we’re going through some things that we knew we would go through. We haven’t had the results that we want, but I do like the way guys are responding to things.”
The Packers’ offensive struggles have been partly attributed to slow starts in games, with opposing teams outscoring them 73-9 in the first halves of the last five games. However, they have performed significantly better in the second half, with a plus-42 point differential, the second-best in the league.
Head coach Matt LaFleur acknowledged that it’s challenging to fully evaluate Love’s performance this season and emphasized the need for improvement from the entire team, both in terms of players and coaching staff.
As the Packers enter a pivotal stretch of games, they hope to gain a clearer understanding of Love’s potential as the team’s franchise quarterback. The next 10 games will be crucial in making this assessment.
