Netflix Reveals New Italian Content Lineup Including Series and Films by Cristina Comencini and Alessandro Genovesi

At Netflix’s “See What’s Next” event in Rome, the streaming platform introduced its fresh Italian content lineup. Alongside previously disclosed series and returning shows, this forthcoming slate includes two new feature films and a pair of drama series.

The two new films are “Il treno dei bambini” (The Children’s Train) directed by Cristina Comencini (known for “Latin Lover” and “Don’t Tell”) and “Fabbricante di lacrime” (Maker of Tears) by Alessandro Genovesi (director of “My Big Gay Italian Wedding”).

The first film is an adaptation of Viola Ardone’s epic bestseller, which tells the true story of children in post-World War II Italy who were relocated from the deprived south to live with their families in the north.

The second film is inspired by Erin Doom’s novel, portraying two dissimilar orphans with equally distressing pasts who are adopted by the same new family.

One of the new Italian Netflix series is “Storia della mia famiglia” (History of My Family) directed by Claudio Cupellini, known for his work on TV series like “Gomorrah” and “The Land of My Sons.”

The drama revolves around Fausto on the final day of his life.

Netflix also disclosed its plan to adapt Alice Urciuolo’s young adult bestseller “Adorazione” into a series, with Stefano Mordini (“The Invisible Witness”) attached as the director.

This coming-of-age story follows a group of teenagers during a scorching summer that will profoundly impact their lives.

In addition to these new additions, Netflix Italy had previously announced the second season of “Everything Calls for Salvation,” “The Law According to Lidia Poët,” and a series adaptation of Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa’s historic epic novel “The Leopard.”

Tinny Andreatta, VP of Italian content at Netflix, emphasized that this fresh lineup reaffirms the streaming platform’s dedication to investing in Italy and telling Italian stories.
